Sunday 20/5/2007 Nahr El Bared camp incidents started to get serious towards aggravation to an opened battle that reached the security and the stability of our citizens at camps which pushed them to emigrate on Tuesday 22/5/2007. This emigration kept on aggravating and now it reached more tan 25000 persons. Most of them emigrated to Al Badawi camp and precisely to Onora schools that became full. Some of them went to centers of the associations that hosted them; Najda Association was one of those. And a good part stayed with families of Al Badawi camp and buildings near the camp.

As for the rest of the families, and which reach more than a 1000 one, they were distributed at camps in other region ( Beirut, Sayda, Sour, Bekaa)

As usual Najdeh association started to put an emergency plan to quickly find a solution to this tragedy that befallen on our people and citizens in Nahr El Bared Camp. The association has decided it’s priorities as follows:

  • To bring aid products to the families that stayed at Nahr El Bared camp and which their number is approximately 1500 families under siege where there is no water, no electricity and no medical needs or medical centers able to fulfill the needs that can occur, in addition to daily needs of life such as bread, water, drinking and food.
  • To help the displaced in Beirut and the rest of the camps regions
  • To fulfill the displaced at Al Badawi Camp with missing needs, also the ones existing in the city ( Tripoli and suburbs)

In deed, the framework of the association started a statistics in all regions to find out the number of families that emigrated and find out their needs.

And the center of the association at Al Badawi camp became a center for aid and administrative work for the society of coordination that gather a number of institutions and active associations in the Palestinian middle and which agreed all together to cooperate with shore up associations (Taawon/ Naroujieh) and to form a local committee that can run the combined work at Al Badawi camp such as: every day distributions (bread, etc.) and joining statements by the combined statistic operation included in the functions of the statistic committee. The association took on her own risks the decision of the committee to establish a digital data base to save information.

And it is important that every association handles the distribution of a certain named product so that together they will be able to fulfill all the needs.

As for the association and according to the priorities that she set for herself from the beginning of the events, managed despite of the security and administrative difficulties to deliver products and vital needs to families existing in Nahr El Bared camp on two stages dated on 27_ 30/5/2007, things that where delivered are: (1500 portion of food supplies_1500 portion of mineral water_ 3750 packs of bread_200 diapers bags. The association cadre managed to enter with every vehicle, stay till it is totally evacuated and then leave together despite the security conditions that forbid the stay of the cadre for more than half an hour at the camp; and which is considered to be a record period to evacuate a vehicle contents.

After observing what the associations distributed in general, it came out that few association distributed women special needs, therefore, Najdeh association decided to distribute women portions that includes what every woman need and this for the displaced at Al Badawi camp and all different regions.

In every region a 1000 portions were distributed in all regions (Saida_ Sour _ Bekaa _ Beirut) at camps and surroundings in addition to 200 portions of food supplies distributed to Beirut camps and surroundings.

As for the displaced in Al Badawi camp and surroundings, and the displaced in Tripoli and suburbs they will receive 5500 portions of women special needs in the few coming days.

As for the biggest part, namely children with average ages from 6 to 12, the association wanted to work with them on a self and social support program in order to reduce their misery and take them out of the shock that hit them as a result to fear and horror that they passed through during their presence under fire in addition to the self restraint they are living at the moment at the displaced places and after losing their houses, regions, relatives, toys and sweet memories. And that’s what makes them a target to instability and loss of family and private security.

Based upon this, the association formed a 24 activated member’s team from her cadres and volunteers where a safe place was discovered in the suburbs of the place. This activity is subject to 320 kids coming from families’ resident outside schools.

This activity gave children the chance to express their feelings and opinions by playing, drawing, and communication sessions, where they expressed their belonging and holding to the camp and return to it.

And due to the huge number of displaced; we started working in one of the schools ( Kawkab School) supplement to Onora by doing late night activities with 175 kid.

Due to its devotion toward its cadres (that are themselves displaced) working on the following of the displaced families’ cases, and in order to shrink their psychological pressures, it signed a contract with a psychoanalysts to hold special evacuating sessions to help them as well to pass this misfortune with the less disorder possible as well as psychological problems resulting because of experiencing this tragedy, in addition to the pursuit of women and children cases that need psychological treatment and a doctors’ examination .
